This portrait was made at the height of the pandemic. Its aim was to reflect the pain and trauma many Black people carried through 2020—amid a public-health crisis, killings and unrest across America.
The image was photographed with a Fujifilm X-T3 and XF 35mm f/1.4 lens, using an Aputure MC to shape the saturated red light.
